St Matthew Passion, 5th April 2025 Snape Maltings
Benedict Collins Rice proposed an inspirational project to perform J S Bach’s Passions over four years with Amici Voices and The Geldart Ensemble. We began with the St Mark in 2022, followed by St John in 2023 and St Luke in 2024, all performed in the Ipswich Minster.
The climax took place in the packed Snape Maltings on Saturday 5th April 2025.
Our enthusiastic audience held their breath after the emotional closing bars, not wanting to break the powerful spell, but were quick to send us their feelings:
“Bravi Tutti! A superb performance of St Matthew Passion at Snape this evening.”
“Flawless, beautiful and very very moving.
From our baritone soloist Michael Craddock (Jesus) “It was an absolute pleasure to be involved yesterday, and in the company of such wonderful musicians in choir, soloists and orchestra. A long day, but such a satisfying one! I hope to see you again.”
From our tenor soloist Sebastian Hill, “What a privilege it was to perform with you last night. Many congratulations on a fantastic performance, I hope you’re delighted and I know how important this performance was for the group. I very much enjoyed working with you and the band, and hope we can do so again soon!”
And this from Rachel Stroud, Leader of the Geldart Ensemble, " It has been a joy and a privilege to work with the ICC over the past few years. The choir has stepped up their game for each and every performance, and last night was a fitting end to the incredible journey we've been on together. Your text projection showed up some of the pro choirs I've worked with, and the shaping and passion in the delivery was truly moving. Thank you for everything.”
